Phoebe Bridgers is the latest name to join The Metallica Blacklist . The indie folk singer released her cover of "Nothing Else Matters" this Thursday, the 12th – a mellow version that she herself called "baroque".
Bridgers is one of 53 artists invited to participate in the re-release of Metallica 's The Black Album , which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2021. In an interview with Apple Music , the singer described her rendition of "Nothing Else Matters" as similar to something Billie Eilish would do and stated that she has always been "a big fan" of Metallica.
“I find it funny that my first contact with them was probably much later than that of the people who have always loved them,” says the singer. “When I was a teenager, I definitely knew some of their songs from video games, but I went to the Outside Lands and saw them play and I remember thinking, ‘ Now that’s a rock band.’”
“They’re like an introduction to metal because they have a lot of hooks and you can absorb a lot of it and it really sticks in your head. That’s what I’ve always loved about Metallica: they’re not afraid of a good hook,” he concluded.
