One of Metallica , the classic "Nothing Else Matters," has reached one billion views on YouTube. This achievement is rare among rock and metal acts, but was recently also reached by Linkin Park with " In The End " and System of a Down with " Chop Suey ."
The video for “Nothing Else Matters” was added to YouTube in October 2009, over a decade ago. Coincidentally or not, the first billion views arrives while the band is promoting the special 30th-anniversary re-release of the Black Album . As part of the promotional strategy, Metallica has been releasing covers by guest artists, and the first of these was Miley Cyrus with Elton John and other artists of “Nothing Else Matters.” Check it out here.
Recently, James Hetfield revealed that he almost didn't show the song to his bandmates after writing it because he was insecure about how the public would react to a love song. "Why didn't I want to write a love song?" he rhetorically asks. "That's easy, it's because it's a huge sign of weakness. You're in Metallica. This is hardcore. What the hell are you doing?" Time has proven him right to insist on the song.
