Exactly 30 years ago, on August 12, 1991, Metallica released their fifth studio album, and perhaps their most iconic, the Black Album . The recording took place between October 1990 and June of the following year at One on One Studios with producer Bob Rock, marking his first collaboration with the group.

The Black Album gave rise to Metallica's greatest hits such as "Enter Sandman," "The Unforgiven," "Nothing Else Matters," "Wherever I May Roam," and "Sad but True." The album was impeccably received, and the band broke sales records. Not surprisingly, to mark the album's 30th anniversary, the group planned a grand celebration.

Still without a release date, the group will debut a special podcast to tell stories about the Black Album . The program will have eight episodes and should be released soon. In addition, the group announced a collaboration with the Vans brand for a special sneaker and a new book with photos and trivia about the Black Album.

The band didn't stop there! Metallica also announced the release of a remastered version of the Black Album on September 10th, which will arrive alongside a tribute album, The Metallica Blacklist . More than 50 artists will interpret the songs from the album, each contributing their unique take on the subject.

The Metallica Blacklist brings together 53 singers, country, electronic and hip-hop artists sharing their love for these genres alongside punk rockers, indie artists, rock icons, metal musicians, world music artists and more.

The 30th anniversary of the Black Album will also feature alternate versions, demos, and live recordings of the album's songs. Furthermore, the proceeds from each sale, download, or stream will be split equally between charities of the artist's choice and Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation .

Here, we've compiled all the releases that have happened so far. The list will be updated as the band releases new material from The Metallica Blacklist , so stay tuned! To check out the versions that will be part of the Black Album Remastered, click here!
