James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett opened the NBA game with a guitar rendition of the national anthem

Metallica legends James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett had the honor of opening Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The duo played the U.S. national anthem before the game between the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors in Oakland.

As they have done countless times at San Francisco Giants baseball games , the musicians performed a distorted guitar version of the national anthem. This time, Hetfield and Hammett showed their support for the Warriors team through their amplifiers and on their t-shirts, which bore the slogan "Strength in Numbers".

In the end, the musicians' support wasn't enough to secure the victory for the Oakland team. The Canadian Raptors, in their first NBA Finals appearance, won the game 123-109. Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, however, scored 47 points. Toronto now leads the Finals 2-1.
