36 years after its release, “Master of Puppets” received a boost in streaming numbers after appearing in the final episode of the fourth season of the Netflix . According to Loudwire , the track accumulated a total of 17.5 million streams in the week following the season finale .
Stranger Things soundtrack with "The Four Horsemen," which was added in the second season, but the recent popularity of "Master of Puppets" is due to the song being used in a key scene in Eddie Munson . Images of Eddie playing guitar circulated in a trailer before the episode's premiere, generating much anticipation about which song the headbanger would be playing.
The discovery of “Master of Puppets” by an audience unfamiliar with Metallica irritated some of the band's older fans, but the members were quick to respond: “Everyone is welcome in the Metallica family,” they wrote on TikTok . Then, the musicians themselves posted a video showing them duetting with the character Eddie during the iconic scene that made the song go viral.
To date, Metallica has no songs in their career that have reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 , and "Master of Puppets" would still need to surpass Kate Bush and dethrone pop singer Harry Styles and his hit "As It Was," which has held the number one spot for 12 weeks, but with the song's growing popularity, anything is possible.
