Guitarist Kirk Hammett has promised to be ready, with a ton of material, to return to the studio.

The members of Metallica have spoken extensively about not repeating the eight-year gap for their next album. That was the period it took for Hardwired… To Self-Destruct to be released. They haven't returned to the studio yet, but when they do, Kirk Hammett will be ready with "a ton of material".

In an interview, the guitarist said: “When I was 13 or 14 years old, bands released albums every year. Even Kiss released one every eight months,” he said. “Never eight years between albums.”

He admitted that the band isn't comfortable with the fact that it took so long. "We're hoping to avoid this happening again this time."

“We’re in the third year since Hardwired ,” he continued. “Maybe we can get more focus if we get into the studio a little earlier. I have a ton of material. I’m getting paid off, so I can start recording anytime.”
