Need some good news today? Metallica has you covered, as the band is officially producing new material for their next album during quarantine, drummer Lars Ulrich in an interview.

Swedish talk show host Frederik Skavlan , Ulrich said, “We’re just getting started, in the last four weeks, maybe, we’ve reconnected. Obviously, we’ve been connecting [even before that], but [now] we’re connecting creatively and now we’re in discovery mode, I think that’s a good way to put it. We’re sending each other ideas by email and via Zoom and [trying] to make music in these unusual situations. But now that we’ve started exchanging some ideas, it’s great.”

“It’s good to get back in touch, it’s good to be part of this group again, and I’m looking forward to the creative opportunities ahead,” said Lars.

When asked about the differences between working on new music in quarantine compared to the “classic” method, he said, “So far, at least the sound and practical aspects are surprisingly in good shape, actually. So now we have to figure out how much we can create without being in the same space.”
