Hammett says the band needs to stop procrastinating

In an interview with Billboard magazine, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett said the band should begin working on a new album in the coming weeks. Metallica's next CD will follow Death Magnetic, released in 2008.

Hammett comments: “We’ve been saying we need to start working on new compositions, but we’ve procrastinated a lot. We’ve given all sorts of excuses for not doing it, and I think there are no more excuses to be given now, so we need to start working on the album now.”

Despite the delay in releasing a new album, Hammett argues that it's not due to a lack of compositions: “Metallica isn't the kind of band that doesn't have ideas. Our problem is the opposite, we have too many. James has 800 ideas, I have 400. That alone is crazy!”

Last year, drummer Lars Ulrich refuted rumors that Metallica's new album would be released this year. According to the drummer, nothing should be released before 2015. In a recent interview with Kerrang! magazine, Lars commented: "If you think about the age of the planet, 75 billion years ago dinosaurs roamed the earth. So a year is actually just a blink of an eye."
