Metallica announces donation of US$1.6 million to community colleges

An initiative carried out by the band's NGO will serve 23 educational institutions

Metallica will donate over $100,000 to community colleges in an action carried out by the All Within My Hands Foundation , an NGO created by the band to support education and other social issues, such as recent efforts to combat COVID-19 .

In partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges, the foundation expanded its initiative to support education through the Metallica Scholars , launched in 2019, to 23 community colleges and to fund the improvement of technical and career education programs.

With a total donation of US$, each educational institution will receive up to US$100,000. In its two years of existence, the project has already directly funded more than a thousand students across the United States.

“It has been incredible to see this program continue to grow and thrive. I am so grateful to hear from those who benefit from our donation, to hear the stories of uncertainty about where to go next, and from those who are [now] able to pursue further education that leads directly to meaningful employment,” James Hetfield in an official statement . “This has given us confidence that we are doing the right thing and has inspired us to do even more.”
