Metallica is not a band that hides its opinion about its own work. While they defend the controversial St. Anger despite the anger of many fans , they also don't hide when they dislike a track from their own repertoire, as in the case of a B-side song from the classic Ride The Lightning .

Currently, the band is on tour promoting their new album 72 Seasons , performing in each city for two nights, but always with different setlists. The audience is expecting to hear songs that haven't been played live in a while, which is why some have started requesting "Escape" for the setlist.

This request caused bewilderment among veteran fans of the band, such as content creator Nick. "Wasn't there a time when Metallica fans agreed that 'Escape' is a terrible song?" the fan asked on TikTok . And the response came from Metallica's official profile on the social network: "Feels like we're in the Twilight Zone ," the band wrote.

To be fair, content creator Nick made a second video in which he listens to "Escape" for the first time after years of skipping the song on the album. "Is 'Escape' better than I remembered?", Nick asked once again . And, according to Metallica's official account, the answer is short: "No, it's not."

This is a B-side track from the album Ride The Lightning – and one that shouldn't even have been included on the record, James Hetfield revealed a few years ago . “We had all the songs ready and Lars told us: 'The record company wants one more song for the album. (…) So we had to write and it was all last minute,” he said in an interview with the Sopitas (via Loudwire ).

After the backlash, the content creator and Metallica fan reacted to the band's profile comments on the videos. "A dream come true in the world of social media. I just wish it wasn't in two videos where I'm talking badly about one of their songs that, apparently, everyone loves," he said.
