Metallica performed on May 7th in Blacksburg, Virginia, in the United States, and caused a small earthquake in the city .
As reported by the Virginia Tech Seismological Observatory , tremors were felt twice during the band's concert. The two main peaks occurred during a provocative introduction to "Enter Sandman," and another, but to a much greater degree, when the band actually played the song.
More than 60,000 people were present, and their synchronized jumping during the music is believed to have caused the tremors. Another contributing factor is that the song was the soundtrack for the entrance of the Hokies – the Virginia American football team. Therefore, a higher energy level was expected when the band played this song.
The show is part of the M72 World Tour , which kicked off last Saturday night, April 19th , at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York. Currently, the tour features opening acts by Pantera , Limp Bizkit, Suicidal Tendencies , and Ice Nine Killse.
Metallica has been promoting 72 Seasons , the band's 11th studio album. They are playing two shows in each city, with different setlists and no songs repeated.
