Metallica surpassed Taylor Swift last weekend, setting a record attendance at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The pop singer currently holds the record for the biggest tour of 2023 with The Eras Tour (which could also become the most lucrative in history). In August, she sold out the 70,240-seat SoFi Stadium, setting a new attendance record for the venue.
Recently, Metallica achieved what seemed impossible and broke that record with an audience of approximately 78,000 people on the M72 Tour , according to the Los Angeles Times .
The overcrowding was made possible by the "Snake Pit" on Metallica's stage, which fans had access to. The central part of the stage was removed to guarantee a prime spot for the audience, while the band performed in the circular area around it.
Over the two days of the show, Metallica amassed an impressive total of 156,000 tickets sold. Despite holding the attendance record for SoFi Stadium, they are still well behind Swift in total attendance; the singer sold out six dates at the venue, totaling an audience of over 420,000 people.
Metallica's record was confirmed by SoFi Stadium itself on social media. Check it out:
