Metallica broke a record with their M72 world tour by performing for over 94,000 people at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany, last Saturday, the 30th, establishing the largest audience ever recorded at a concert held at the venue.
According to the newspaper The Berliner, the band surpassed the stadium's previous record, which belonged to U2 since 2009. On that occasion, the Irish band gathered just over 90,000 spectators, although the usual capacity of the Berlin Olympic Stadium for concerts is around 72,000 people.
In a social media post, Metallica commented on the record-breaking Berlin show: “Night after night, city after city, the #MetallicaFamily is killing it! Yesterday, over 94,000 of you helped break the record for the biggest show EVER at the Olympiastadion. Thank you!”
The main factor in achieving the record was the structure of the M72 World Tour. Since 2023, Metallica has used a circular stage installed in the center of the stadium, which expands the space available to the audience and allows for the sale of a greater number of tickets.
A few weeks earlier, the group had also broken the attendance record at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece, by gathering more than 90,000 fans.
