Metallica: Biffy Clyro and OFF! cover “Holier Than Thou” for new version of 'The Black Album'

The bands are part of the 'Blacklist' which will feature more than 50 artists performing reinterpretations of the iconic album.

In preparation for the 30th anniversary of The Black Album , Metallica is working on an album that will feature over 50 artists performing tracks from the record, as well as a complete remaster of the album and rare recordings.

This Wednesday, the 7th, the group released a recording of “Holier Than Thou” that took place in 1990 during a studio rehearsal in the pre-production phase of The Black Album . The recording, which you can listen to here, was recorded on October 4, 1990, and features the instrumental part of the group's creation.

Now, the group has shared a cover of “Holier Than Thou” recorded by Biffy Clyro and another by OFF!, which you can listen to below.

Metallica has also released a demo from the same period as "Enter Sandman ," which was recorded in Lars Ulrich , as well as an alternate version of "Sad But True ." All of these new releases will be available in full on September 10th, along with a book featuring photos from the time of the album's recording – learn more here.

The Blacklist , a tribute album featuring over 50 artists, included a version of "Nothing Else Matters" Miley Cyrus and Elton John Juanes , and two versions of "Sad But True," the first by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and the second by St. Vincent.
