Brasilia's metal scene is an inexhaustible source of talent

Famous for being the capital and political center of the country, Brasília is also a very important source of Heavy Metal bands, with talented musicians from the most varied subgenres of heavy music.

It was in Brasília that Flammea, Volkana, and Valhalla emerged. It was there that Alírio Netto built part of his career. Arandu Arakuaa, Dark Avenger, and dozens of other bands also originate from there, proving that the city is a cradle of diverse and endless musical creativity.

Many of the bands mentioned here are no longer active, but that doesn't erase the legacy they left behind.

In 2010, on the city's 50th anniversary, 35 musicians came together to record a song in homage to Brasília. Today, we've gathered here some of the bands you need to know.

One of the most famous bands was led by vocalist Mario Linhares, Dark Avenger, a band formed in the early 90s that, through ups and downs, cemented its name in the history of Brazilian Metal. The album released in 2017, The Beloved Bones: Hell , considered by many to be one of the best Metal albums in Brazil that year, was the last released by the band, following the untimely death of the vocalist. Mario Linhares also led the band Harllequin, which released the album Hellakin Riders in 2012.

In the 90s, Khallice emerged, a Prog Metal band that featured Alírio Netto, now the vocalist of Queen Extravaganza, and Marcelo Barbosa, currently the guitarist for Angra and Almah. Alírio was also a member of Age Of Artemis.

Arandu Arakuaa is a band that brings a rather unusual proposal: Mixing Rock and Metal with indigenous rhythms and languages.

Mixing Thrash, Prog and Djent, it's from those lands that one of the most intriguing bands also emerged: Dynahead. Guitarist Diogo Mafra is now part of Almah.

You can't talk about Prog without mentioning Bad Salad, who are heavily influenced by Dream Theater, and even performed at the festival organized by Mike Portnoy in 2014, Progressive Nation at Sea.

"Deus Ex Machina" by Blazing Dog is a song dedicated to Ayrton Senna. The band was formed in 2004.

Raw thrash metal with a political stance. That's Violator!

Fabrício Moraes is an important figure in the Brasília music scene. Besides Mortaes, he was a member of Dark Avenger, Harllequin, Misty Mountain, Abhorrent, and Sound N' Rage.

If you like Black Metal, Brasília has some too. Miasthenia was formed in 1994, and features Hécate on vocals and keyboards, with lyrics in Portuguese.

Mork is a Symphonic Black Metal band that, after releasing 3 albums, ceased activities. The band's last album, Awake, was released in 2014.

Extreme Metal also has some truly heavyweight representatives. Device is just one of them.

Daniel Moscardini plays fast. With that statement alone, you can already tell the kind of music he made in Coral De Espíritos. He also played in Mortaes and today is part of Fleshpyre, which released its first album, Uburying The Horses Of War , in January.

These are just a few of the bands that come from Brasília. Let us know in the comments which ones you know! 😉
