The lineup will be similar to that of album 9 , with the exception of Timi Hansen who will not be part of it.
Mercyful Fate has confirmed that they will reunite in 2020 for a series of shows, including the European Wacken festival.
The news was announced by vocalist King Diamond on his social media, and according to him, the lineup will be the same as on the album 9 (1999) with guitarists Hank Shermann and Mike Wead and drummer Bjarne T Holm , in addition to Diamond on vocals. The only exception is bassist Timi Hansen , who will be replaced by Joey Vera.
King Diamond explained why he invited Joey Vera and revealed that he will be working on new music. “We asked Joey Vera to join because he has a very unique style and sound playing with his fingers, very similar to Timi Hansen. This is important, since the repertoire will only consist of songs from the first 'mini LP' (EP Mercyful Fate , 1982) and the albums Melissa (1983) and Don't Break The Oath (1984), in addition to new songs made specifically in this style,” he said.
Mercyful Fate was active between 1981 and 1985, and later between 1993 and 1999, when it definitively ceased operations. Some reunions took place in 2008 and 2011.
