Alex Skolnick of Testament , Roberto “Ra” Diaz of Suicidal Tendencies , and Charlie Benante of Anthrax covered Rush live from their homes during quarantine.
Benante released the video of the triple cover on his YouTube channel and wrote about the occasion, “Here’s our version of the classic @Rush #YYZ – @rush inspired all three of us to be better musicians. #alexlifeson #geddylee and the great #neilpeart 💜 not only played incredibly, but also wrote some of the best songs. We are honored to play a little bit of #YYZ for you. Hope this magical song makes your morning/afternoon. Alex Skolnick and Ra Diaz are so amazing – I 💜 Rush.”
Testament's Skolnick had spoken in an interview about his relationship with Rush and Neil Peart , who sadly passed away earlier this year. According to the musician, he had begun listening to Rush more intensely, mainly focusing on his and Neil's drumming, which made the news of Peart's death even more sad and shocking.
“What an incredible person, lyricist, thinker. A great inspiration. For those of us who don’t always fit in, he’s a great inspiration – not just for drummers,” Skolnick said on The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show .
