Member of Norwegian band Darkthrone wins city election unintentionally

The musician asked that people not vote for him

Fenriz, a member of the Norwegian duo Darkthrone, was unintentionally elected to the council of his hometown of Kolbotn. The musician, whose real name is Gylve Nagell, said he campaigned to avoid winning.

Nagell explained that he had agreed to be on the alternate list of representatives, imagining that he would never win the election. “I said yes because I imagined I would come in 18th place and wouldn’t have to do anything. My campaign was a picture of me holding my cat with the words ‘don’t vote for me’ written on it.”

Contrary to expectations, Fenriz won the alternate election and will serve a four-year term. “After the election, the guys called me and said I was a representative. I wasn't very happy.”

Fenriz says he shouldn't have much work: "Basically, I only have to go to meetings when someone gets sick or something like that."

Darkthrone, a Norwegian black metal band, was founded in 1986 and consists of members Fenriz and Nocturno Culto.
