New details about the creation process of Megadeth were recently revealed by drummer Kirk Verbeuren .
In an interview with Todd Nief's Show , which can be heard below, Kirk says, “We had to delay things a bit, but at the end of May, David Ellefson and I went to Nashville to get into the studio with Dave [Mustaine] , and we recorded the drums and bass for the album, which we've been working on for about a year and a half. We started, with Dave, working on ideas for songs and riffs. So the foundation of the album is ready. Dave Mustaine is currently recording all the rhythm guitars. Kiko [Loureiro] , at some point, he's in Europe now, will come and work with him on all of this stuff. So it's in progress.”
“We actually recorded a lot of songs, and I’m sure not all of them will be on the album. But the overall direction of the record is definitely that it will be a thrash album, and it will be a metal album. It’s heavy, it has a lot of heavy stuff. So I’m very excited about it,” reveals the drummer.
“The old Megadeth stuff is what I kind of grew up with, and that’s not to discredit anything they’ve done in their career, but it’s what resonates with me the most, so I wanted to build on that energy,” he says. “And I did, because Dave, being the frontman that he is, let me try things, he lets me do things. In fact, he was encouraging me to go crazy in some parts. And I think that was a very stimulating moment to be able to do that. It was pretty surreal, actually, being in the studio with those guys.”
