In an interview with FeMetal TV, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson spoke about the band's 2017 Grammy nomination. The album "Dystopia" is competing in the Best Metal Performance category.

Ellefson said the institution doesn't understand heavier genres: “The Grammys are a very broad entity that honors all types of music. And it certainly has credibility, so it's amazing to be nominated again and invited again. But if they fundamentally understand all genres? How could they?”

It's the voters. I was a voter a few years ago when we started getting nominated in the '90s, and then I stopped. But it's recognition from the industry and your colleagues for the work you've done. I imagine it's good to win, I hope we'll know what it's like someday.

It's always good to be nominated. And I think being nominated, for a metal band, says a lot. Because if you're pop, or if you're from Nashville, or an urban artist, a Grammy can help you a lot – sell albums, gain notoriety, tour, all aspects. I remember Norah Jones, the girl who has 11 or however many Grammys, it changed her life. But for a metal band, we've always been here, we already have a solid foundation, we've traveled a lot, we've toured, and we have a very strong connection with our fans.”
