This Friday, the 12th, Megadeth released the new song “Soldier On!”. This is the third single to be released from their new album, The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead .
Lyrically, the song blends themes of war, drawing analogies to the life of a musician on the road and establishing parallels between the two. Regarding the song, Dave Mustaine comments :
“[It’s about] realizing that you need to walk away from a relationship that is very toxic and how difficult it can be to take that first step. But you know you need to do it, and the hardest part is taking that first step.”
"Whatever your departure does to the other person, you need to ignore that part, go your own way, and do what's right for you. It will be difficult at first, but you need to live for yourself to be worthy of others. You have to be a soldier."
Megadeth's first album without David Ellefson.
The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead is the name of Megadeth's 16th studio album and their first since the departure of bassist David Ellefson .
Ellefson left Megadeth in May 2021 after intimate videos and sexually explicit conversations with a much younger woman were leaked. In June of this year, Dave Mustaine said that parting ways with his friend and bandmate was "difficult," but that he felt "happier" without him.
Before the release of "Soldier On," Megadeth released the singles "We'll Be Back" and "Night Stalkers ," in collaboration with Ice-T . The new album is scheduled for release on September 2nd.
