Megadeth reaches the top of the Billboard charts for the first time

After more than four decades in the business, the band reached a historic milestone with their farewell album

After more than four decades in the business, Megadeth achieved a historic milestone by reaching number one on the Billboard 200 with their farewell album Megadeth , released in January.

The record marks the first time the band has topped the overall album charts, following 17 releases throughout their influential metal career. In its debut week, the album sold approximately 73,000 equivalent copies in the United States, including strong performance in physical formats.

Prior to this achievement, the group's highest-charting album had been Countdown to Extinction (1992), which reached number 2 on the Billboard 200. Later, Dystopia (2016) and The Sick, The Dying… and the Dead! ( 2022) reached number three.

In a statement, Dave Mustaine celebrated the late victory, highlighting his gratitude for ending his career with this unprecedented result.

“After 40 years of releasing Megadeth music and playing shows all over the world, I only have gratitude at this moment. Discovering that our latest Megadeth album is also our first number 1 only reinforces my desire to end my career at the peak. I thank my family , Teemu Mäntysaari, James LoMenzo, Dirk Verbeuren and Chris Rakestraw — and all our fans for making this possible. Without you, Megadeth would not have achieved the success it has” [via Metal Sucks ].

Megadeth has confirmed a single show in Brazil for May 2nd, at Espaço Unimed in São Paulo, as part of their  Farewell Tour . Tickets are already sold out.
