Megadeth has a date set for a South American tour, according to confirmation from Dave Mustaine in recent interviews. The band's frontman not only spoke about the band's plans to come to our continent in 2024, but also announced the month for the shows here.
During a backstage conversation Bloodstock Open Air festival (via Whiplash ), where Megadeth headlined last Sunday, August 13th, Dave Mustaine discussed several future plans for the band next year, such as the release of a definitive live album, a new cruise, dates in the United States between January and February, and good news for South American fans. "In April of next year, we're going down to South America," Mustaine stated.
The Megadeth frontman's statement only confirms that the plans for shows in South America are solidified. In June of this year, in an interview with Guitar World , Dave Mustaine had already mentioned these plans, only without specifying the month for the visit. “We’re going crazy with everything that’s happening, but it’s great. We have a series of headlining shows in the United States and Poland. (…) After that, we have some dates in South America, and we’re also planning to participate in several festivals,” he said.
Megadeth in Brazil in 2024
Megadeth's last visit to Brazil was in 2017, with shows in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro as part of the Dystopia World Tour , which also passed through the country the previous year.
The band almost officially returned to the country on two occasions, both as a headliner for Metal Day at Rock In Rio . First, Megadeth was scheduled for the festival in 2019, but had to cancel the performance after Dave Mustaine received a diagnosis of throat cancer .
In 2022, the band was finally scheduled to take the stage at Rock In Rio , but opted to book a US tour with Five Finger Death Punch, with dates that would have coincided with their participation in the Brazilian festival. The cancellation was made official hours later.
Although we don't have much information about Megadeth's plans for shows in South America in 2024, the month of April coincides with the next edition of Summer Breeze Brazil , which will take place on April 26, 27 and 28, from Friday to Sunday.
Monsters of Rock festival is also a possibility. Without new editions confirmed, but with a "see you soon" left for the public in the 2023 edition, also held in April, the event seems to have plans for continuity after returning to Brazil following seven years without new national editions.
