Meet the small (but great) guitarist Melissa Menegotto

At age 11, Melissa plays in a band that received mentorship from Kiko Loureiro

What were her 11-year-old self like? Carefree, with responsibilities only at school, and toys still in the spotlight. That's also Melissa Menegotto at 11, in the city of Garopaba, Santa Catarina, however, her favorite toy is, without a doubt, much more rock 'n' roll than any singing Barbie could ever dream of.

Playing since the age of 7, when she began her musical journey with the guitar, influenced by her family environment, with her parents Vanessa Maestri and Raphael Menegotto being big rock fans, Melissa switched guitar picks not long after and began to familiarize herself with the instrument that corresponds to what she says she wants to be when she grows up: a guitarist, says her mother, who also mentions that, at the time, the guitar was practically the same size as Melissa, however, this did not prevent her from improving.

At the music school Melissa attends, her teacher noticed her interest, and, along with other students of the same age, they formed the band Music Art Kids , which has been performing in various places since the end of 2018. The group also has a YouTube channel where they showcase bands that are frequently featured in their setlists , and Melissa gave a great kick-off to the series, masterfully introducing AC/DC .

Recently, Music Art Kids was selected to participate in a mentorship program with none other than Kiko Loureiro of Megadeth . And we here at Wikimetal are absolutely certain that this is just the beginning of a life of shows, videos, and gaining the attention of rock stars for Melissa, the other members of Music Art Kids, all the children, and especially all the girls, who aspire to live a day of music and for music. Stories like this reinforce that even in uncertain times about the future, music makes us dream above the clouds of troubled times.
