The musician was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl.
Maynard James Keenan , frontman of the bands A Perfect Circle and Tool , has responded to accusations from a woman who claims he raped her in 2000.
The vocalist went to Twitter to respond to the accusation and even cited the #MeToo , which, according to the woman who accused him, inspired her to bring the story to the public. “Thank you so much to everyone who saw through this despicable and false accusation that only harms the #MeToo movement. And shame on you who spread this destructive clickbait. Regarding my delay in responding, my phone was off. You should try doing that too.”
Last week, a woman created an anonymous Twitter account to report the abuse that occurred when she was only 17 years old, while he was 36. Following her report, other stories appeared online detailing similar cases.
Many thanks to those of you who saw right through this despicable false claim that only does damage to the #metoo movement. And shame on those of you who perpetuate this destructive clickbait. As for my delayed but unrequired response, I had my phone off. You should try it.
