The musician spoke out after several artists criticized the excessive use of cell phones at concerts.
Maynard James Keenan , frontman of Tool , agreed with singer Jack White on the need for cell phones to be banned at concerts.
In January of this year , White had banned fans from bringing cell phones onto his current tour, claiming he wanted them to have a "more human" experience.
“I follow the rhythm of the audience, not a setlist,” he said, “So if everyone has their phone up, I can’t tell if I should play a slower or heavier song. Do they want something acoustic? Do they want me to leave?”
Now, the Tool frontman has revealed his desire to do the same, “The more you focus on what’s in front of you [your phone], the less you notice the things happening around you. I wish I had a solution for this, but at the end of the day, people have the right to do what they want,” he says before concluding by agreeing with White’s attitude, confessing that all artists should do what he does and who knows, maybe one day nobody will use their cell phone during shows.
