Tool and A Perfect Circle vocalist James Keenan . A 35-year-old woman used an anonymous Twitter account to reveal that she was raped by the frontman when she was only 17 years old.
The incident reportedly occurred in 2000 during a Nine Inch Nails with A Perfect Circle as the opening act. Tweets recount that the girl was at the barrier with her boyfriend during Keenan's band's performance when a woman invited her to meet the band. When she asked if she could bring her boyfriend, the woman said no.
The following tweets describe in disturbing detail how Keenan allegedly took the then-girl to his tour bus and raped her on a bed while she was paralyzed with panic. She also recounts that she later discovered she had contracted HPV from the vocalist, who did not use a condom during the act.
#MeToo movement inspired her to tell the story she was previously afraid to share. The tweets generated a great deal of discussion online. Some users on forums said they had heard that Keenan had tendencies toward violent behavior, while others said it was absurd, as they had met the vocalist and he didn't seem like a violent man.
To date, neither the band nor any representative has commented on the allegations. Meanwhile, A Perfect Circle is on tour promoting their new album Eat The Elephant , and Tool is preparing their next studio album.
