In an interview with Music Radar, drummer Mike Portnoy's son, Max Portnoy, listed his ten favorite drummers, commenting on his choices. Check out the musician's list below:

1. Mike Portnoy: "First and foremost, my biggest influence, not just in playing drums but in music as a whole, has to be my father, Mike Portnoy."

2. Chris Adler: "One of the first drummers who really surprised me was Chris Adler."

3. Joey Jordison: “Slipknot was the first band I became truly obsessed with, and I still am to this day.”

4. Mario Duplantier (Gojira): “Mario is one of those drummers who has his own sound. He incorporates his ride cymbal into most of his fills, which I think is great.”

5. Jojo Mayer: "Normally I choose more Metal drummers, but there's something about the way Jojo Mayer plays that I find incredible."

6. Danny Carey: “The first time I heard Tool I thought the drummer's snare drum was out of time, which I thought was bizarre, but after listening more I realized it fit perfectly with the song, which was called 'The Grudge'.”

7. John Dolmayan (SOAD): "Thanks to John Dolmayan, I'm addicted to adding tin can beats to metal songs."

8. Ray Luzier (Korn): “I love the feeling and the groove, and he can still play fast and detailed stuff, which I love in a drummer.”

9. Aoyama Hideki (Babymetal): “Okay, so the first time I listened to Babymetal I wasn’t sure what to expect, but after listening to a few songs I was amazed by the musicians on all the tracks.”

10. Ray Hearne (Haken): “Ray is definitely my favorite drummer in the Progressive Metal scene”

Max Portnoy's band, Next To None, will release their second album, Phases, this month.
