Max talks about the importance of helping those in need

When their son Igor was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 2, Max Cavalera and his wife Gloria decided they should somehow help other people who don't have the same financial resources but also suffer from the disease.

The partnership that the Iggy Foundation formed with the Children's Hospital of Phoenix in Arizona, offering complete kits for diabetics, was the action that Max and Gloria sought to help and contribute.

Max humbly says, “All the credit goes to my wife Gloria – she was the one who had the idea and contacted the hospital. We helped a lot of poor families and that’s really great. I feel good doing things like this. It’s good for the soul .

Over the years, the Cavalera family discovered how much their efforts were appreciated: "We received a lot of thanks from the hospital staff, like how grateful the families are for what the Foundation did for them, especially helping to buy medicines and other items that are expensive and that many people can't afford ," said the legendary founder of Sepultura.

“We are very fortunate that we can buy things for Igor, but many families don't have the means to do so, which is why this Foundation is so important. The money goes directly to where it needs to go.”.

“I hate this damn disease. I’ve been dealing with it for 20 years and I’m still angry that my son has it and that it came out of nowhere. Nobody in my family or Gloria’s has it, so it just appeared out of nowhere. But if it’s going to be like this, at least something good came out of it, which is this Foundation.”.
