Max Cavalera left Sepultura in 1996.

The former Sepultura vocalist, currently in Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy, said he would have liked to have kept the name Sepultura.

In 1996, Max left Sepultura after the other members fired his wife, Gloria Cavalera, as their manager. Max's brother, Igor Cavalera, remained in the band for another 10 years before leaving and joining his brother, creating Cavalera Conspiracy.

In an interview with Broken Neck Radio, when asked what advice he would give himself if he could go back in time, Max said:

“You can go back and look at things, like you could do things differently, like we could have kept the name SEPULTURA, never lost the name. Because it was ours, we created it. That would probably be a smart thing – be smarter with your own stuff. Don’t let other people do it, like what happened. That would be a thing I would do differently. But everything else was cool. But if that hadn’t happened, there wouldn’t be Soulfly, Killer Be Killed, and Cavalera Conspiracy, so at the end of the day, fuck it – I don’t care. It’s all good. Even with all the heartache and heartache, it turned out well. Maybe it was meant to be – I don’t know. I didn’t really plan it that way. I thought I’d be with [SEPULTURA] forever – you always think that. But you adjust with life.”
