In a recent conversation with the website MetalUnderground , Max Cavalera , leader of Soulfly , gave details about the band's upcoming album, the successor to Totem (2022). The musician revealed that the recordings are in their final stages and that the process has been meticulous to ensure a work that lives up to expectations.

“We are working on the new album now, and it’s going well. We are taking the time we need to do it right. The recordings are being finalized, and soon we will begin mixing and selecting the tracks that will be released on digital platforms. I am very proud of what we are creating,” said Max.

Regarding the sound of the new material, Cavalera highlighted a return to his roots, but without repeating formulas.

“It has an adventurous spirit similar to the first album ( Soulfly , 1998), but musically it’s different – more elaborate and with even heavier grooves. It was challenging to recapture that mentality from the time of the debut album and use it as inspiration for something new, 13 albums later. I didn’t want to simply copy the past, but to capture that energy in a fresh way,” he explained.

The vocalist also reflected on the band's evolution over the years, citing works such as Dark Ages (2005) and Omen (2010), which explore more thrash sounds.

"What's great about this new project is that it brings back what made fans fall in love with Soulfly in the beginning, but with the personality they have now. The songs have their own identity, but there's an essence that harks back to the beginning," he commented.

Release date for Soulfly's new album and tour.

Regarding the release, Max revealed that it's scheduled for October, and that the public will get a taste of the material before then:

“In June, we’re going on tour in Europe and we’ll be playing one or two new songs. I remember doing something similar during the Primitive (2000), when we played the title track before the album came out. Today, with the internet, fans will be able to get a feel for the album beforehand, through videos and social media.”*

Expectations are high, and Cavalera seems confident:

"I'm curious to see the audience's reaction. I think they'll feel the same emotion we felt when creating this album."
