Max Cavalera , guitarist and leader of Cavalera Conspiracy , discussed the reason that led him and his brother, Iggor Cavalera , to re-record the first albums of Sepultura , the brothers' former band.

In an interview with the Australian magazine Heavy , Cavalera defended the re-recordings of the albums Bestial Devastation (1985), Morbid Visions (1986) and Schizophrenia (1987) , which had been criticized by Andreas Kisser , guitarist and leader of Sepultura ( via Blabbermouth ):

“It was a chance to re-record, but to do it better. Not correcting the mistakes, because I think the mistakes were kind of cool, but making the songs from the albums sound better. We had the chance to have a better guitar, a better drum sound, a better studio, surrounded by experienced metal people who know how to record this musical material.”

Max Cavalera pointed out that Sepultura suffered from the limitations present in the context of the 1980s in Brazil.

“None of that equipment was available when we made those records in Brazil. The sound engineers didn’t know what to do, and it was like a no-man’s land recording those albums in Brazil. So, we had the chance to redo them the way we thought they should sound. Even when we were young, we hoped to achieve the sound we’ve achieved now in the re-recordings, and that’s what we aimed for from the beginning.”

The guitarist shared that the energy and anger of the original recordings were preserved during the re-recordings.

“It’s really cool to have the opportunity to remake it. Many bands don’t have that opportunity. Or they don’t even try, or they try and fail to maintain the energy and anger of the original work. We made sure to maintain all of that. We ensured that the re-recordings remained furious, and they are full of energy and attitude from beginning to end. So, I think that’s why many people like the re-recordings. The fans really love the re-recordings, and they have been very well received around the world.”

Andreas Kisser's criticism of the remakes done by Max and Iggor Cavalera.

In November 2024, Andreas Kisser criticized the Cavalera brothers' reinterpretations of Sepultura's early albums in an interview with IMPACT Metal Channel .

Kisser said that the re-recording done by Max and Iggor is unnecessary and disrespectful ( via Blabbermouth ):

"I don't think anything of it! I mean, it's a strange decision they made, and the artistic value is zero. Maybe they're after money or something more, but there's no reason to do something like that."

“If they’re having fun, so be it. I don’t care. I just think it’s completely unnecessary. It’s really very disrespectful to themselves and to their own past.”
