Any metal fan has had to take a stand on the sound of The Black Album Metallica 's fifth studio album : loved or questioned, this record played a vital role in the band's career. Max Cavalera is among the group of fans who never had a problem with the album's more commercial sound.
“I remember when I first The Black Album Mike Z commented in an interview with Radioactive (via Ultimate Guitar) . “It has some truly incredible songs; it’s a bit controversial for a lot of people, but yes, I love it.”
Despite liking it immediately, Max acknowledges the reason for some of the audience's hesitation at the time. “I think there are some wonderful songs on the album. It's a little different from the stuff from the beginning of our career, but that's part of our lives. All of us musicians need to understand that doing this is part of the band's growth. And I think they did it in a killer way,” he concluded.
To celebrate the album's 30th anniversary, Metallica recently released a new version of the record with 250 tracks, including demos, live recordings, and covers by 53 guest artists , thus returning to the Billboard Top 10 .
