In a recent interview, Max Cavalera commented Marc Rizzo 's departure from Soulfly , saying that he "doesn't understand all the accusations" made by the guitarist.
Rizzo left the band in August and recently cited a lack of financial support during the pandemic, as well as a recent "mental breakdown," stating that it was impossible to maintain mental health "on a tour bus with everyone."
Speaking to Metal Kaoz , Cavalera said he has nothing bad to say about Marc, but that it hurts to hear his former bandmate “betraying” the band. “After everything we did for him, which was a lot – we put him on every record and always looked after him, always treated him very, very well,” said Max. “He’s obviously trying to turn the fans against me and make himself the victim.”
Max Cavalera also said that he noticed a different behavior from Rizzo since the last Soulfly show in Mexico and that musicians who play with other musicians shouldn't act the way his former colleague is acting. "He seems kind of bitter about everything and it sucks to hear all this," he commented. "It definitely hurts me when I hear all these accusations that I know are nonsense and lies; it's all fabricated by his crazy mind. I don't know, it's a strange situation."
Marc Rizzo will be replaced on tour by Dino Cazares , whom Cavalera called a "great friend and master of riffs." "These things happen and you have to be tough. Many fans agree with him or disagree. It doesn't matter, it is what it is. I tried to make the best of the situation and that's why I called Dino, a friend, master of riffs and a great guitarist. I'm looking forward to future projects."
