Matt Heafy debuts black metal project with Ihsahn; listen here.

“Tamashii No Houkai” marks the first single from the project and features the participation of the founder of Emperor.

Matt Heafy , vocalist of Trivium , debuted his solo black metal project, Ibaraki , with the single "Tamashii No Houkai" alongside Ihsahn.

Ibaraki, the name of a Japanese demon, celebrates Heafy's Japanese heritage and, according to the musician himself, will be a side project to Trivium.

“Tamashii No Houkai” was co-written and produced by Ihsahn of Emperor , who inspired the project and has served as a friend and mentor to Matt Heafy. The song title translates to “soul collapse” in English.

Heafy said in a press statement that the song “summarizes everything about the past, present and future and everything I think black metal is and can still be.” He went on to say that the single “is a perfect summary and representation of everything Ibaraki is… and will still be.”
