Mastodon apologized Brent Hinds made a homophobic comment The Jasta Show podcast , Hinds allegedly used the word "gay" in a derogatory way to refer to his Disturbed .
The episode has since been removed from digital platforms, but according to Loudwire , Brent Hinds reportedly used a derogatory tone when saying he had "done a lot of tours he didn't want to," citing Disturbed and the Mayhem as examples.
After the backlash, a music journalist commented on one of Mastodon's Instagram posts, drawing the band's attention to the incident and expressing disappointment with the guitarist's behavior. "As a supporter of the band who is LGBTQ and has seen you live three times, written about your work multiple times in magazines, and even once flew from New York to New Orleans to see you, it sucked to see you in all the news with a band member using homophobic language," the journalist wrote.
The band promptly responded to the comment, apologizing and saying that the podcast interviewer must have “caught Brent on a bad day.” “This really upsets me. I’m so sorry we hurt your feelings and anyone else’s, that was never our intention. We want our LGBTQ fans to feel safe listening to our music and coming to see us live,” they wrote.
“We also have nothing against Disturbed, they were always very nice to us on the Mayhem . I think the interviewer must have caught Brent on a bad day. I apologize for upsetting you and anyone else, we value you and all our fans very much,” the comment concludes.
The host of The Jasta Show , Jamey Jasta , also spoke out about the incident, saying that he did not intend to cause any stress to his "friend" Brent Hinds and removed the episode from digital platforms.
