In this week's Wikimetal poll, Master Of Puppets was voted the best Metallica riff, with 36% of the votes. Seek And Destroy and For Whom The Bell Tolls , with 25% and 14% of the votes respectively.
The riff from Master Of Puppets is also number one on Total Guitar magazine's list of the 100 best riffs of all time. Speaking about the song, James Hetfield said: “I think we wanted to write a song like Creeping Death. The riff was pretty messy, it changed all the time .
"Master of Puppets" was also known for being Cliff Burton's favorite song from the album, and it's the one Metallica played live the most. In the setlist for Metallica's show in São Paulo , chosen by fans, the track received the most votes.
