Massacration finally arrived in the capital of Paraná with their new tour, Metal Is My Life. The show took place at Clay Highway Bar on a holiday night, November 15th. The event promised to be great, after all, four bands were taking the stage. The venue was a bit far from the city center, but with a great motorcycle club vibe, it didn't prevent a long line from forming outside the gates.
Naghost live for the first time.
The opening act was Naghost , a band from Curitiba making their debut performance. The members took the stage at 8:30 PM, brimming with energy and delivering a distinctive heavy/power metal sound, with lyrics that seek to innovate and give visibility to Afro-Brazilian cultural traditions. The band caught the attention of the early arrivals, as their lyrics and stage performance truly command attention.
The band's setlist featured tracks from their current work, highlighting "Road to Èkó," the recent single "The Mission's Visions," and audience participation in "When I Say Run," near the end of the performance.
In short, André Mendes (guitar), Julio Cezar Siqueira (bass), Jefferson Moraes (guitar), Caco Andrade (vocals), and Cayo Albuquerque (drums) showed what they were made of.
The contagious energy of Steal This Band
Steal This Band takes the stage . The band recently opened for Matanza Ritual and Massacration in the capital in March 2024.
With great energy and stage presence, the band captivated the audience with their well-executed cover of the Californian band System Of A Down , even prompting some attempts at moshing from the crowd. The songs that most excited the audience were the excellent "Chop Suey" and "Toxicity".
The band is made up of Yuri Al'Hanati on vocals, Ryan Augusto on guitar, bassist Felipe “Greengo” Gusinski and drummer Nicholas Pedroso .
Massacration: an epic and daring metal show
Bruno Sutter appeared looking like a member of a boy band and singing electronic music, surprising everyone who was already expecting this kind of humorous show.
After a few jokes, the band was introduced, complete with "Axel Rose," in short, a theatrical succession with music. But getting to the point, the show was of very good quality. One criticism here concerns the size of the stage versus the audience; the number of people crowded in front of the stage was absurd.
Even if you went further back, besides it still being crowded, the sound was compromised. A situation not uncommon for a heavy metal show, but given the scale, it left many fans unable to properly enjoy the band. So much so that the outside area was full of people who preferred to grab a hot dog and catch up with friends.
The members of the epic Brazilian band Massacration were properly dressed in the heavy metal style of the 80s and 90s. They started the performance with full force, rocking out with "Metal Is the Law," "Metal Milkshake," and others. The highlight was their performance of the track "The Bull." They began with a full-on bullfight simulation, complete with costumes and everything else.
It's difficult to pinpoint a particular moment in a Massacration show, as the band's entire performance is epic and unique. But it could easily have taken place in a larger venue for shows of this genre. Not to diminish the Clay Highway Bar, with its excellent bar setup, food, and perfect, very Instagrammable decor. It even catches the eye of every Curitiba resident, with a nostalgic portrait of the band Blindagem by Ivo Rodrigues, who passed away years ago. A great place to get together with friends and enjoy live music.
Finally, the encore arrived, with “Evil Papagali”, “Metal Massacre Attack” and “Metal Bucetation”. A great night, with Detonator always rocking, lots of quality music and respect for the bands' scheduled times.
Made in Curitiba
Despite the late hour, many people stayed to enjoy the Curitiba-based band Made In CWB , one of the best Iron Maiden cover bands in Brazil. The band members always deliver quality and a nostalgic feel to the audience. For those awaiting the Iron Maiden in São Paulo on December 6th and 7th at Allianz Park, it was a great warm-up for the evening.
