Marty Friedman, Megadeth guitarist , is about to release his cover album, Tokyo Jukebox 3. The project continues the saga of Japanese cover versions chosen by the musician. The first album, Tokyo Jukebox, was released in 2009, while Tokyo Jukebox 2 arrived in 2011. Now, ten years later, Friedman is preparing to release the third installment on April 16th.
On Thursday, the 25th, the guitarist gave a preview of what's to come by releasing the visualizer for his 5-minute cover of the song "Kaze Ga Fuiteiru" by Ikimono Gakari. "While I kept the essence of the melody intact, I also tried to destroy it, rebuild it, and create five minutes of new music that might bring a tear or a shiver, and definitely lift your spirits," Marty Friedman reportedly said, according to Blabbermouth .
The decision to record a third installment of Tokyo Jukebox was made because, according to Friedman, the audience's reception to these live performances had become something that "took on a life of its own." He also shared a bit about the experience of recording an original piece with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. "The Japanese government asked me to compose an official piece to be played at government-sponsored events celebrating Japanese heritage. This was a huge honor, and it was wonderful to be able to work with such a prestigious orchestra in which, conveniently, my wife plays the cello," he recounted.
