Mark Lanegan , vocalist best known as the frontman of the band Screaming Trees , who also sang with Queens of the Stone Age and in a solo career, has died at age 57. The cause of death has not been released.

The news was released on the singer's official Twitter profile. "Our beloved friend Mark Lanegan passed away this morning at his home in Killarney, Ireland. A beloved singer, songwriter, author and musician, he was 57 years old and leaves behind his wife Shelley . No further information is available at this time. Please respect the family's privacy," the statement reads.

Recently, Lanegan shared his harrowing experience with COVID-19 in his new book titled Devil in a Coma . The singer was infected with the virus in March 2021 and suffered from long-term effects of the illness. In a press release (via Consequence of Sound ), he said he became “completely deaf” and “went in and out of a coma” after contracting the coronavirus.

At the time of the announcement, CoS contacted a representative for Mark's book and inquired about his current state of health. They said that the musician had recovered his hearing, but his health was still "unstable."
