Mark Jansen of Epica comments on the end of CD sales

Epica guitarist Mark Jansen spoke to the program From Hero To Zero about old rock bands experiencing a decline in CD sales. When asked about his opinion on Gene Simmons' statement that he no longer wants to record albums because they don't make money, Jansen commented:

"I realize that these older bands are angry with the way the industry has developed, and sometimes I have to laugh at it. Because they're used to selling millions of CDs and having huge houses with big swimming pools.".

We grew up in a different era, when CD sales weren't as high anymore, so we're used to not being millionaires! That's why it's easier to be happy with what you have, rather than being at the top and watching your sales plummet. But many older bands still complain about that.

I think you have to look on the bright side. We can go on tour, we can live off our music, even if we're not millionaires. We do exactly what we'd like to be doing – it's our dream – so we look at the positive side
