Marilyn Manson 's eleventh album , We Are Chaos , which arrives on September 11th, the artist revealed more details about the conception of the highly anticipated album.
In an interview with Revolver , Manson shares the concept behind the album, however, he doesn't go into much detail, encouraging fans to create their own interpretation of the work. “So, I started with the introductory prose to try and set the mood for what the album was going to be. And we made 10 songs so that it would be treated, in the traditional way, of how an LP works. Like there's a Side A and a Side B, because that changes. Just like in a film or play, there are three acts. And we were very specific about how we put it all together, but it wasn't difficult. There weren't any extra songs that we left out.”
Marilyn also comments on how, while painting the album cover on his knees and being covered in black paint with stains on his legs, he ended up discovering the concept for the second part of the album. “And that then generated side two of the album, Infinite Darkness , because that’s what I called the painting. And that’s the second side of the album.”
A long-time and prominent figure in music, Manson spoke about his frequent shifts in aesthetics and sound over the years, describing the process as, "It's almost like a cleansing or a rebirth, or something like that."
