In September 2020, iconic pop star Mariah Carey revealed, via X (formerly Twitter ), the existence of a mysterious alternative grunge album, recorded during the sessions for her 1995 Daydream Daydream . It was just for fun, but it helped me through some tough times," she wrote.

Now, during a recent interview on the Las Culturistas podcast , the singer revealed that she still plans to release the project, titled Someone's Ugly Daughter , confirming that it is in the works. “I’m very upset that I haven’t done it yet. It’s a good album. You’ll hear it, I promise,” she stated.

In her autobiographical book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey , the singer also explained in more detail the reasons that led her to record the album. “I would bring my little alternative rock song to the band and hum a guitar riff. They would get the idea and we’d record it right away. It was irreverent, raw, and urgent, and the band loved it. I started to like some of the songs and I dedicated myself completely to the character I was creating,” she revealed.

“I wanted to break free, let go, and express my sadness,” she added, “but I also wanted to laugh. I was totally looking forward to doing my alter ego with the band after Daydream every night.”

Although the album is still unreleased, the promise that Someone's Ugly Daughter will be released in the future rekindles fans' curiosity about this alternative side of Mariah Carey, which has remained a secret for a long time.
