The non-profit contest Come To Latin America , funded by the Finnish Government, crowned its grand champion on August 10th: Where's My Bible . Chosen by the Latin American public, the Finnish band, from a small Finnish town called Heinola , blends deathcore and death n' roll, making them the most musically extreme of the three finalist bands.
With the idea of bringing different cultures together and discussing the various issues between Brazilian and Finnish cultures, as well as music in childhood and adolescence, one of the contest judges, vocalist and guitarist Marcus D'Angelo from the Brazilian band Claustrofobia , had a chat with guitarist Toni Hinkkala from the winning band Where's My Bible. The video of the interview is now available and can be viewed:
About the contest:
Metal may be considered an outcast in many nations around the globe; however, in Finland, it is a musical style deeply ingrained in the culture and highly regarded by the population, with a strong presence in mainstream media, radio, and therefore, in the lives of the country's inhabitants.
One of the government's most far-reaching actions to foster local culture is the funding of projects through the Ministry of Education and Culture. Currently under discussion is the Come To Latin America , aimed at emerging Finnish metal bands, with the goal of spreading the music, promoting the country's culture, and helping to break down some of the prejudices that still exist surrounding heavy metal. The hybrid project aims to reach approximately 10 million people, including judges, audience members, and performers.
Come To Latin America jury , composed of over 100 Latin American musicians, journalists, radio broadcasters, festival organizers, and professionals connected to live entertainment, selected the three finalist bands, and the Latin American public chose the winner.
Where's My Bible, as the winner of the competition, receives a distribution deal with Nuclear Blast through its subsidiary Blood Blast Digital Distribution – one of the largest record labels in the niche worldwide and a partner in the initiative.
