The heavy metal band Satan has cancelled its participation in the Maranhão Open Air 2022 , which takes place this weekend, November 12th and 13th. In a statement, Fanzine Produções , responsible for the event, explained the reasons for the cancellation by the band, which will also not be coming to the Open The Road in São Paulo.

The announcement of the cancellation by Satan startled the festival audience, as the band posted a photo with a banner reading "Cancelled by the producer" over the festival poster, artwork that implied the cancellation of the Maranhão Open Fest itself. In the same post, the same was done with the São Paulo festival Open The Road , which takes place this Thursday, November 10th, where the group will also not be performing.

According to Satan's announcement, the cancellation of their participation in Maranhão Open Air and Open The Road Fest was due to a breach of the pre-established agreement with the respective production companies. "We were contracted with flights and a deposit for these shows, but nothing came to fruition. We waited until the night before, and the proposals for the tickets arrived too late; it wasn't even possible to inform the band members that they had a four-hour window to wake up and rush to the airport. We promise never to announce another show in the future until we have confirmed the trip. We guarantee we will return under the right circumstances," they wrote.

The production company Fanzine, responsible for Maranhão Open Air 2022, presented a different version of the events that led to Satan's cancellation from the festival and will announce the replacement act soon. “The band (…) decided to cancel their participation in the festival. All attempts were made to resolve the situation, which was aggravated by the fact that one of the band members had an expired passport. After resolving their issues, we tried to issue other more viable flights, but none of them were accepted. Finally, we even managed to find another flight, even more expensive, but they still didn't accept the offer. The cancellation was solely and exclusively due to the band Satan, who unfortunately posted on their social media, in an erroneous way, graphically implying that the entire festival had been cancelled,” they explained.

The lack of agreement between the band and the Maranhão Open Air also affected the band's appearance at the Open The Road Fest , which announced the band Flagelador to replace Satan in the event's lineup, taking place this Thursday, the 10th, at Carioca Clube, in São Paulo. "We were bound by the event's sponsor, Maranhão Open Air, which will take place in São Luís. The band did not accept the flight and contractual conditions and decided to cancel. We tried until the last second to proceed, because besides being fans, we considered having a closer relationship [with Satan]," explained the production team.
