Maranhão Open Air festival has announced the first acts for its 2023 edition, scheduled for October. So far, 14 bands have been revealed for the two-day lineup, with I Am Morbid , VIPER , Black Flag , and Black Pantera among the highlights.
So far, two international bands are on the festival lineup. For the second time in Brazil, Black Flag will be performing their classic album My War (1984). According to journalist José Norberto Flesch , more shows by the band in the country will be announced soon.
In the case of I Am Morbid, the band is making up for the cancellation of their scheduled show at Maranhão Open Air 2022. At the time, the musicians were prevented from traveling in time due to Hurricane Nicole, which devastated the state of Florida in the United States, where the band was scheduled to depart from (read more here ).
Among the confirmed Brazilian acts are Black Pantera, NorthTale, Sinistra, RF Force, Noturnall, Facada, Comportamento Estranho, Grave Reaper, Mortuorial Eclipse, The Laws Will Destroy, a tribute to Sarcofago, and 7 Peles.
The Maranhão Open Air takes place on October 21st and 22nd at Espaço 77, located on Praia da Raposa beach in São Luís. The schedule of attractions by day of the week will be announced in the coming weeks.
According to the organization, the event will take place in a "paradisiacal seaside landscape, immersed in the lush nature of Maranhão," with the goal of combining tourism and music.
The last edition of Maranhão Open Air took place in 2022 and was marked by a series of unforeseen events. Of the 24 bands initially announced, a total of seven canceled their participation for various reasons. Even so, names like Edu Falaschi, Crypta, Mayhem, and Richie Ramone performed.
