Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M. Shadows angered Taylor Swift by sharing his opinion on Twitter on Friday, the 7th. His argument revolved around the abuse of fans when an artist re-releases the same album in different versions, allegedly related to the desire to stay at the top of the charts. Swift's fans interpreted this statement as a dig at the singer's recent practice and expressed their anger on social media.
“Selling multiple versions of the album to the same fan in order to get a chart position that nobody cares about and is manipulated should be called what it is…fan abuse. I'll go further: many options are good. It's when it becomes: buy the vinyl for ticket discounts, buy version 1 of the CD for an extra track, buy track 8 in the first week to get an exclusive t-shirt. It's bullshit to make you buy the same crap to boost the numbers,” Shadows commented on social media.
After responding to some internet users, the Avenged Sevenfold singer said he was referring to the music industry in general. "I don't know why a bunch of kids came to comment on my profile. I didn't say anything about her."
The context for the re-release of Taylor's albums stemmed from a legal battle with her first record label, Big Machine Records . The contract, which began in 2005 and ended in 2018, did not grant her rights to the recordings made in the label's studio, only crediting her for the lyrics and musical compositions. Therefore, to regain control of her music, the singer has been re-releasing versions of the albums with some differences and unreleased tracks that were not included in the final project.
