Lzzy Hale , from Halestorm , revealed in an interview with Spotify the pressures to abandon metal and pursue a pop career, as well as the prejudices she faced in the 90s.

Halestorm vocalist Lzzy Hale spoke about the beginning of her career in an interview for Woman of Metal, organized by Spotify, recalling the intense pressure she faced as a teenager to abandon her metal roots and pursue a solo career in pop. From a very young age, Lzzy was constantly bombarded with external opinions, often from influential figures in the music industry, who insisted that she leave the band in search of a career that supposedly had more commercial appeal.

“I fought hard not to pursue a solo career, even though everyone wanted me to,” the singer confessed. She recalls the frequent comments she received at age 16 at social events: “Lose your brother, lose the band, lose your friends – you should be in pop. Why do you like metal? Why do you like hard rock?” However, Lzzy always kept her passion intact. “This song spoke to us!” she stated with conviction.

Lzzy Hale reveals uncomfortable episodes.

Lzzy's journey was marked by even more complex challenges due to the absence of women in the metal scene in the 90s. She revealed uncomfortable episodes in the early years of her career, in which she dealt with gender bias during live performances. “I’d go on stage and there was always that guy who’d say, ‘Hey, naked girl! Show us what you’ve got!’” Despite this, Lzzy transformed these situations into opportunities to prove her talent. “It was always interesting to see the change throughout the show: that I could convince that person to at least shut up and witness that I was capable of doing my job.”
