Halestorm vocalist Lzzy Hale shared a text with fans on her online diary about the artists' stance on the American political crisis.
Hale, who had already spoken out about recent events, used the text as a way to rebut those who were asking her not to express political opinions and just sing.
Check out the translation of the text, which is titled "The Spirit of Rock N Roll".
"I want to start by saying that I don't have a degree in political science; nor am I an expert on social injustice.".
But you don't need to be an expert or have a master's degree to know the difference between Right and Wrong, and Good and Evil.
This is something instilled in you when you learn empathy and compassion.
The notion that all humans deserve to be treated as equals should not be an optional belief or a political opinion. It should be something we all practice as a fundamental characteristic of our species.
It must be something "without thought".
Justice for ALL, not Justice “for some”
We are all born with this characteristic. But some of us are taught to fear, hate, or discriminate against another human being based on the color of their skin.
Look inside your soul.
If you feel uncomfortable or truly don't believe that all human beings should be treated the same way... then you are part of the problem.
But it's okay to be wrong. And just because you're wrong doesn't mean "that's it" and we should just settle for dividing it.
Absolutely not, it's never too late to educate ourselves and abolish this dinosaur mentality. Together, we can be the asteroid that puts racism to rest once and for all.
I truly believe that hope and optimism are on the way.
Unfortunately, at this moment, our country is plagued by Untamed Narcissism, Police Brutality, and a Broken System.
But sometimes it takes a horrific tragedy (or many horrific tragedies in the case of 2020) to unite us.
So, this is not a time for silence.
We need to keep up the pace, otherwise history is doomed to repeat itself.
And we must not let that happen!
I know many of you are telling me to shut up and sing.
Well, this is me singing.
I am an artist.
And art has always played a role in revolution.
I am specifically a Rock N Roll artist
Since its inception, rock has always been a safe haven for the displaced. In fact, the ENTIRE idea behind the spirit of rock and roll is to rebel and confront injustice!
And who gave birth to Rock N Roll?
Black musicians!
So I'm not going to shut up. If what I'm saying makes you uncomfortable, you need to delve deep into your soul, discover why, unlearn, and join us in the fight for change. We'll welcome you with open arms.
To my Black brothers and sisters,
I will never truly understand your pain because I was born white.
But I am outraged and heartbroken that you still have to bear this crushing burden that should have been removed long ago.
I stand in solidarity with you.
I will continue using my voice to spread the Spirit of Rock n Roll.
Love, equality, peace, empowerment, support, and understanding.
Black lives matter.
Lzzy Hale
