Lzzy Hale, from Halestorm, talks about how the decision to stop drinking changed her life.

The vocalist stated that alcohol consumption was like an escape and changed her perception of herself.

Lzzy Hale , vocalist and guitarist of Halestorm , reflected on her decision to stop drinking at the end of 2023. The frontwoman stated that alcohol consumption was about to transform her into a person she never wanted to be.

In an interview with Metal Hammer , Hale said that alcohol was like an escape and that it changed her perception of herself. Furthermore, the instrumentalist also stated that if she had continued with it, her professional and personal life could have been completely different.

“I was looking for an escape in the wrong places. I saw myself in a way I never wanted to be. I almost saw my nemesis in myself, a woman I didn't want to become. I think if I had gone further, I don't know what would have happened in my relationship with my bandmates, my relationship with myself. It was the peak of everything,” she stated [transcription via Loudersound ].

Lzzy Hale also commented that the decision to stop drinking triggered negative thoughts. The singer stated that she began to feel guilty and that she was living in a dream, because, according to her, it would have been impossible to make that decision at the beginning of the band.

“I felt very guilty about it. After all, I’m living an unimaginable dream, something I never imagined possible when we started the band. However, there was a constant battle in my head: ‘Why are you so depressed? Why are you frustrated? Why are you angry?’ This life is great! In comparison, I could be working in an office somewhere!” she concluded.
